The Department of Horticulture is pleased to announce the release of a new on-line Extension publication entitled Native Plants for Georgia Part I: Trees, Shrubs and Vines. This publication is the result of a two year collaboration with members of the Georgia Native Plant Society, Master Gardeners, naturalists, foresters, and botanists from many professions, along with funding for technical support from the Georgia Native Plant Society. The publication includes descriptions and photos of 68 native trees, 58 native shrubs and 9 native vines. The purpose of the publication is to describe native plants available in the nursery trade as well as those native plants that have potential for nursery production and landscape use. Rare or endangered species are not described. Part II on Herbaceous Native Plants is currently in production and scheduled for release in 2009. An .html version of Part I is now on the UGA Extension Publications Web site, and a printable PDF version will follow shortly.
