Basic Plant ID Workshop in Middle Georgia: FULL
June 6, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
This workshop is now FULL.
The focus will be an appropriate blend of basic keying skills and common plant family recognition. Attendees will be shown how to properly use a hand lens. Weather permitting, a portion of the workshop may be held outside (so dress accordingly). After a brief indoor introduction, 30-45 minutes, the rest of the workshop will be held outdoors at a nearby site. Registration will be based on a “first come – first served” basis determined by the order of emails to trip leader (see RSVP form below) .
Pre-Registration required with a cap of 20 participants. Workshop participants will be expected to bring two items: 1) a 10X hand lens (loupe) and 2) a copy of Thomas J. Elpel’s Botany in a Day (preferably the 6th ed. which is the Patterns Method of Plant Identification). If participants have a copy of Harris and Harris’ Plant Identification Terminology, it would be useful to bring it, but it is not required. Books can be shared with a partner, but the hand lens should be one per participant.
Used and new copies of the required book can be purchased from Amazon.com Marketplace (http://www.amazon.com/Botany-Day-Patterns-Method-Identification/dp/1892784351). Prior experience has shown that, a used book in “very good” condition or in some cases, even “good” condition, is like new. The catch is that sometimes it may take two weeks to get the book.
The workshop could last till 3:30 or 4:00PM depending on interest and energy of the group.
