Enjoy a short hike along the first section of the Silver Comet Trail at Heritage Park. The site features the state champion umbrella magnolia (Magnolia tripetala), as well as large beech trees (Fagus grandifolia), and tuliptrees (Liriodendron tulipifera) along with spring shrubs like maple leaf viburnum, spicebush, and azaleas and spring flowers such as mayapples (Podophyllum peltatum).
This is a GNPS restoration site, and the leaders will also discuss successful tips on restoration.
Come early and bring a sack lunch to eat in the shade of the pavilion. Hike leaders are Ellen Honeycutt, Price Crafts, Connie Ghosh and Marcia Winchester.
