State Botanical Garden: Field Botany and Herbarium Protocols

Dates: Tuesdays, October 6 and October 13

Location: State Botanical Garden of Georgia, Visitor Center, Classroom 2, Athens
Time: 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
Fee: $105 for both sessions, $55 for one (10% discount for Friends of the Garden members)
Join Wendy Zomlefer, Plant Taxonomist and UGA Herbarium Director, as she teaches this two-part, hands-on class that can serve as two electives in the Garden’s Certificate in Native Plants Program or in place of the Plant Taxonomy core class. However, you do not have to be enrolled in the Certificate program to take this class — it is open to everyone. The October 6thsession will include collecting and pressing your own plant specimens, as well as a general presentation on herbaria and plant taxonomy. A week later,Tuesday Oct 13, class participants will mount their (now) dried and pressed plants and will also participate in a keying exercise — creating their own key. The course will be limited to 15 participants.
