Olmsted’s Deepdene Park: A Forest Preserved in the 19th Century finds its way for the 21st : Half of the total 45 acres of the Olmsted Linear Park in Druid Hills lies in the forest of Deepdene. In this talk, the history of this park will be touched on with more time spent examining the efforts of the Olmsted Linear Park Alliance to rehabilitate this woodland with its triple threat of invasive exotics, storm drainage erosion and overhead power lines. Phil Delestrez from the North American Butterfly Association will speak about Georgia butterflies and the new Georgia Chapter of NABA. GNPS will selling plants at the meeting, mostly perennials that support butterflies.  We will also be selling t-shirts featuring our plant of the year, Georgia aster. This program will be held in Day Hall at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. A social hour starts at 6:30 PM and the program begins at 7:30. There is a fee for parking, but GNPS…

Toby Sauders, recipient of a GNPS Jeane Reeves grant, will present at the March 14th program. His presentation gives an overview of ecological research on the vascular flora of Snake Creek Gorge. It describes the gorge, the major plant communities, the most common vascular plants, noteworthy plants, and some ecological relationships between the plant communities and their environments.
