Chapter Meeting: Tour of the State Botanical Garden’s Elaine Nash Prairie Restoration Project

June 22, 2022 @ 6:00 pm

Athens-East Piedmont Chapter Meeting

Please join us for our June meeting at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. Rather than a more traditional business meeting, we’ll be enjoying a special tour! We will meet at the main parking lot of the Gardens near the lot entrance at the kiosk for the Orange Trail. We will be outside for the entire meeting.
Our presenter and guide will be Zachary Wood, the Grassland Coordinator for the State Botanical Gardens. He is responsible for the grasslands/Piedmont prairie restoration project at the Gardens, which is a partnership with the Southeastern Grassland Initiative. Zach will give us a tour of the Elaine Nash Prairie Restoration Project, named for the volunteer who identified the site as being an intact native prairie. We should learn a lot about these remnant prairies, including why they are important, how to manage and restore them, and of course, the individual species we’ll see growing there.
You can learn more about the Prairie Restoration Project here. Click here for more about the Southeast Grassland Initiative.

As our meeting will be outdoors and entirely taken up with our tour, we will postpone all normal business until our July meeting.
Inclement Weather Plan: We plan to hold the meeting if there is light and intermittent rain, so come prepared. We will cancel and try to reschedule in the case of heavy rain or thunderstorms.
