Kris Bisgard and Dan Vickers have converted their sunny front yard to a wildflower meadow. You will find a mix of purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea), butterfly weed (Asclepias tuberosa), goldenrod (Solidago sp.), violets (Viola sororia), and blue mistflower (Conoclinium coelestinum).
They are managing the backyard forest of white oak (Quercus alba), red oak (Quercus rubra), American beech (Fagus grandifolia), along with various ferns and grasses while keeping out non-native plants that invade the property.
A selection of vines are also found in their yard including purple passionflower (Passiflora incarnata), trumpet vine (Campsis radicans), crossvine (Bignonia capreolata), and Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia).
Congratulations to Kris and Dan for receiving a gold sign and educating the neighborhood about native plants!
