Chapters in Georgia Native Plant Society
History
Over two decades ago, the Georgia Native Plant Society was founded by people based in metro Atlanta. Since that time, their initiative and message around the importance of native plants to our lives and the ability of individuals to make a difference locally in their protection, stewardship, rescue and propagation, has spread across Georgia and in fact across the USA. Today our members are served in other locations across the state where local groups are providing educational information, restoration opportunities and opportunities to learn more.
Realignment
In November 2019, GNPS adopted new bylaws, which implemented a state-wide governing board to set organizational policy, define its strategic vision, and directly support chapter activities. This new organizational structure paved the way for more chapters to form throughout Georgia.
Join a chapter
There are currently 8 chapters of the Georgia Native Plant Society. As a member of GNPS you too can get to work and join like minded people in your area by aligning yourself with one of our chapters.
For current members, login and update your chapter affiliation through the chapter affiliation form. For new or renewing members, select your chapter affiliation on the membership form.

Becky Griffin helps school and community gardeners succeed! Becky is a Georgia Certified Beekeeper and works with community and school gardeners to increase beneficial insect habitat. She is the coordinator of the Great Southeast Pollinator Census, happening this year on August 19th and 20th, 2024. She is also part of UGA’s Native Plants and Beneficial Insect Working Group.
Learn strategies for planting for pollinators, and perhaps enjoy a beverage from our hosts while you’re there! This event is sure to be informative and inspiring for anyone looking to support bees, butterflies, and more with their gardens.
This event is free, but registration is required. Space is limited.
Tickets Still Available! Intown Atlanta Native Garden Tour 2024
Tickets. Still Available!
Tickets are $20 for members, $25 for non-members and can be purchased here until Friday at 11PM. Tickets will be available at Trees Atlanta garden on June 8. Maps will also be available at Trees Atlanta.
The garden tour is Intown Atlanta’s major fundraising event. Ticket sales support our educational, restoration, and advocacy activities focused on inspiring Atlanta to grow and preserve native plants. Learn more and get a little preview of the gardens on tour here through this link.
If you cannot attend, your ticket is transferrable. Just have your guest use your name at check-in. The tour is not sold out yet, so please invite others to attend! They can purchase their tickets here.
Gardens. This is a self-guided tour, so you will have the opportunity to explore and get inspired by each garden at your own pace. The tour will occur rain or shine. Please download our tour brochure with information about each garden available through this link. This beautiful brochure is a collaboration between the garden owners and our board members Wende Crowe and Grace Manning.
Homeowners and GNPS volunteers will be available to answer your questions.

Merchandise and Free Native Plants at Trees Atlanta Garden. Be sure to check out our new, chapter-exclusive merchandise at the Trees Atlanta Garden!
Purchase a recycled cotton tote bag or insulated stainless steel water bottle featuring the 2024 GNPS Plant of the Year graphic designed by our own Intown board member, Laura Qadri. We will also have car magnets and yard signs for sale, and we’ll be giving away a free native plant with each purchase while supplies last!
Proceeds from the sale of merchandise and tickets support the educational, restoration, and advocacy work of our chapter.
Pesticide-free Gardens. Be aware there may be some mosquitos. We encourage you to use appropriate measures (e.g., long pants, bug spray).
Restrooms. Restrooms are available in neighborhood coffee shops and gas stations but not at the garden houses.
We hope you enjoy the tour. If you are not already a member, please consider joining GNPS. We have events throughout the year, including visits to GNPS-certified native plant gardens, plant rescues, plant swaps, native plant sales, workshops, and advocacy and restoration activities.
Native Plant Garden@Amerson River Park (Macon) Workday
Fringed Campion Chapter members and friends will gather at the Native Plant Garden at Amerson River Park on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 5:30 pm, to spruce up the garden in anticipation of the upcoming weekend’s Bio-Blitz activities. Dress for garden work (long pants, long sleeves, gloves, hat, work boots). Bring a water bottle and any tools you have.
Participants must be 18 or older and must sign the GNPS waiver of liability before working.

Workday at Old City Cemetery Native Plant Garden (Macon)
Join Fringed Campion Chapter members and friends at the native plant garden at Old City Cemetery on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 beginning at 5:30 pm for some fellowship after the workday and some garden maintenance. Dress for garden work (long pants, long sleeves, gloves, hat, work boots). Bring a water bottle and any tools you have to dig and weed. Participants must be 18 or older and must sign the GNPS waiver of liability before working. We can also discuss ideas for the garden and do an assessment to see if we need to replace any plants.

Native Plant Garden@Amerson River Park (Macon) Workday
Fringed Campion Chapter members and friends will gather at the Native Plant Garden at Amerson River Park on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at 7:30 am. Activities might include adding an olla or two, adding mulch to the pathways, and maybe digging a few holes in order to add a couple of things near the new sidewalk. Dress for garden work (long pants, long sleeves, gloves, hat, work boots). Bring a water bottle and any tools you have.
Participants must be 18 or older and must sign the GNPS waiver of liability before working.
