Chapters in Georgia Native Plant Society
History
Over two decades ago, the Georgia Native Plant Society was founded by people based in metro Atlanta. Since that time, their initiative and message around the importance of native plants to our lives and the ability of individuals to make a difference locally in their protection, stewardship, rescue and propagation, has spread across Georgia and in fact across the USA. Today our members are served in other locations across the state where local groups are providing educational information, restoration opportunities and opportunities to learn more.
Realignment
In November 2019, GNPS adopted new bylaws, which implemented a state-wide governing board to set organizational policy, define its strategic vision, and directly support chapter activities. This new organizational structure paved the way for more chapters to form throughout Georgia.
Join a chapter
There are currently 8 chapters of the Georgia Native Plant Society. As a member of GNPS you too can get to work and join like minded people in your area by aligning yourself with one of our chapters.
For current members, login and update your chapter affiliation through the chapter affiliation form. For new or renewing members, select your chapter affiliation on the membership form.

Workday at Old City Cemetery Native Plant Garden (Macon)
Join Fringed Campion Chapter members and friends to weed and water the native plant garden at Old City Cemetery on Sunday, May 26, 2024 beginning at 8 am. Dress for garden work (long pants, long sleeves, gloves, hat, work boots). Bring a water bottle and any tools you have to dig and weed. Participants must be 18 or older and must sign the GNPS waiver of liability before working. We can also discuss ideas for the garden and do an assessment to see if we need to replace any plants.

Apply for a 2024 Jeane Reeves Research Grant
GNPS is pleased to accept applications for the 2024 Jeane Reeves Research Grant cycle through June 30, 2024.

The Jeane Reeves Research Grant Program honors a pioneering member of Georgia Native Plant Society. Jeane recognized the need to save native plants from development before the Society was formed and brought that passion with her as a founding member of the Society in 1994. Her love and passion for native plants inspired many a new member until she passed away in November 2006. There have been more than 50 research grant applications over the years and many have been funded. Several of these grants have been quite important because they funded surveys for land that were later purchased by the State for conservation purposes – examples include Oaky Woods prairies, the Monticello Glades and Burks Mountain grasslands. Continuous support of this Research Grant is made possible by the generosity of GNPS members and supporters.
Native Plant Garden@Amerson River Park (Macon) Workday
The Fringed Campion Chapter welcomes members and friends to join us at the Amerson River Park Native Plant Garden for a workday and fellowship on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 8 a.m.
We plan to weed, water, and maybe even plant a few new acquisitions before it gets too hot. Dress for garden work (long pants, long sleeves, gloves, hat, work boots). Bring a water bottle and any tools you have to dig and weed. If we are feeling feisty we might even take down a Chinese tallow tree or two.
Participants must be 18 or older and must sign the GNPS waiver of liability before working.

Summer Native Plant Sale at Wesleyan Market (Macon)
The Fringed Campion Chapter Summer Native Plant Sale will be held at the Wesleyan Market (Wesleyan University in Macon, GA) on June 8, 2024 from 9 am to 1 pm.

Athens-East Piedmont Chapter Meeting and Swap
The Wednesday, June 12 meeting will be held at Sandy Creek Nature Center from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM. The meeting will be a forum to discuss upcoming plans for our Chapter as we process the success (we hope!) of our first plant sale.
In addition, we will hold a Gardening Swap for all who have equipment, books, etc., to share with others. Native seeds will also be welcome.
