Alapaha Station Depot Educational Garden

The Alapaha Station Depot in the city of Alapaha is a renovation project using volunteer workers and corrections personnel, funded by donations, grants and in-kind contributions. The renovated building is used as a community event space. GNPS volunteers from the Coastal Plain chapter designed and installed the landscaping, using native plants to create pollinator microhabitat and resilient evergreen species appropriate for year-round interest. The property allowed for both sun-loving and shade-tolerant species, providing an excellent opportunity to showcase a variety of native plants. More than 25 species of native plants have been installed – an excellent demonstration garden for the public to learn from and appreciate.
