Last winter, Trees Atlanta offered GNPS the opportunity to adopt a section of the Atlanta BeltLine Arboretum.  A very special group of our volunteers/members stepped in to make this project possible this past spring.  Our site is in Inman Park, essentially at the end of Elizabeth Street by Freedom Parkway.  We spent a number of days this spring and early summer getting rid of invasive plants and generally cleaning up to prepare the site for planting this coming fall.  Now the planting plan is complete and it’s getting to be time to plant!

We need plants. GNPS is looking for perennials including Christmas fern, cinnamon fern, spotted geranium, mayapple, bloodroot, coral bell, Solomon’s seal, spiderwort, cranefly orchid, and ebony spleenwort in quart sizes or larger.  Trees Atlanta has generously agreed to supply the trees and shrubs which we will plant at the site.  We thank them for their contribution.

Please contact Sally Hilton with the kind of plants you would be willing to donate, the number of plants, and your contact information.  Please be sure to label all plants in case of coming dormancy. Sally’s contact information is sallyjuly10@gmail.com and 404-885-9762 .  Please let us know what you can donate by Friday, September 25.

Plants will be delivered to Betsy Abrams in Candler Park.  She will be available the weekends of Friday, October 23-Sunday, October 25 and Friday, October 30-Sunday, November 1. Please contact Betsy at baabrams@hotmail.com or 678.670.3688  for more specific information on your plant delivery.

Next question is, do you have a truck or van? Are you willing to transport plants from Betsy’s to the site the afternoon of Thursday, November 5 or Friday morning, November 6? Please contact Sally Hilton to let her know you can help with that.

And finally, please join us for one final cleanup day on Friday, October 16 at 9 am and for our planting days on Friday, November 6-Saturday, November 7.  There will be lots of encouragement and questions from the folks using the Beltline.  It’s fun!
