Report of Mary Scott Nature Park workday March 03, 2018

DeKalb County delivered a dumpster to the western entry of Mary Scott Nature Park in anticipation of the Friends work party. On a sunny, cool March day, four Beta Club members from Lakeside High School helped neighborhood residents and Georgia Native Plant Society members remove the nonnative plants from the Briarcliff and western entries to the park. We pulled and cut privet, Chinese holly, Japanese holly, Mahonia, trees of heaven, acuba, nandina, cherry laurel, English ivy, crocosmia, bush honeysuckle, and Burfordii holly. We were excited to find more Trillium cuneatum than we remembered from last year. Bloodroot was blooming.

The next scheduled workday will be Saturday, April 07, 2018, 2:00-4:00 pm when we plan to continue following the 2018 action plan of removing pest plants and waiting to see what grows in newly open space.
