Report of Mary Scott Nature Park workday January 2, 2021
On a January afternoon, following the annual meeting of Friends of Mary Scott Nature Park, 11 GNPS members and Friends of Mary Scott Nature Park worked at the park removing English ivy. Ten yard waste bags were filled with this nonnative. Some nonnative shrubs were pulled out using weedwrench technology. These were piled along the main path until we have a dumpster to fill during the February workday. A request from the DeKalb County Parks Department has been made to the Sanitation Department to deliver a dumpster before the 2/6/21 workday. We are hoping for lots of help to fill the dumpster with nonnative plant material.
We observed CDC recommendations to wear masks and practice social distancing.
The next scheduled workday will be Saturday, February 6, 2021, 2-4pm, when we plan to continue removing nonnative plants, specifically shrubs along the western boundary. We hope for a big turnout of help. Please bring your mask, gardening gloves, soil knife/trowel, and kneeler to help.
