Join us at our annual meeting to celebrate the accomplishments of 2025, and hear about what’s planned for 2026. Among our agenda items, we will spend a few minutes on pod time, meeting your neighbors and finding out ways to spread the wonders of native plants across the area. We are also thrilled to welcome Malcolm Hodges as our featured speaker.

Malcolm Hodges
“How to Look at Lichens”

We will begin with the weird basics of lichen biology, sort through their different growth forms and reproductive strategies, and get familiar with some basic groups and common species. We’ll discuss lichen ecology and the places they like to grow, and end with lichen conservation. Time permitting, we’ll talk about strategies for observing lichens on iNaturalist.

Malcolm Hodges grew up in coastal Mississippi. He worked as a biologist and land manager for The Nature Conservancy in Georgia, retiring in 2020. His interests include birds, lichens and conservation ecology in the Southeast. Hodges collaborated with mentor Sean Beeching and others on the Georgia Lichen Atlas Project, which documented, described, and mapped lichen species across the state. Project results may be seen online at the Georgia Biodiversity Portal site, georgiabiodiversity.org/portal/. Currently, Hodges lives on a small farm in Riverdale, Georgia, with his partner, Keith Poole, and their animals. Registration is free.
