The first workday for this new project at 860 Old Rucker Road in Alpharetta is Saturday, March 17, 10 a.m. to noon. The City of Alpharetta is donating topsoil and wood chip mulch for the site. Preparation will involve removing the grass, applying the topsoil and then laying down a weed barrier of newspapers and wood chip mulch.
Long-term projects for the park will depend on the development of a master plan based on feedback from community meetings. Possible future GNPS involvement could include pollinator meadows, a native plant nature trail and woodlands restoration. The opening for the park is expected to coincide with the completion of new construction on Rucker Road in late 2018 or early 2019.
