Workshops

GNPS occasionally hosts workshops that focus on topics related to plant identification or plant ecology. Some workshops offer hands-on learning about topics such as pruning or transplanting plants. Educational materials and a chance to practice your new skills are typically provided to give our members more in-depth learning and a way to take home what you learned. Workshops are also conducted by individual chapters.

Check our calendar for listings of upcoming Georgia Native Plant Society workshops. We would love to hear from you if you are interested in leading a workshop or have a topic that you would like to learn more about.

The Georgia Grasslands Initiative iNaturalist Project

Virtual Presentation by Mr. Will Rogers

Conservation Researcher at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia

Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 7:00 p.m.
Free to all. This event will be live streamed on GNPS’s YouTube channel.

Georgia’s grasslands need our attention. Our National Forest roadsides hold relicts of lost grassland and woodland habitats that have been declining since European settlement. Shockingly, Southeastern grasslands have declined to about 1% of what they used to be. Nearly a third of all animals in the Southeast U.S. require grassland habitat for survival. These startling numbers led the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia and the U.S. Forest Service to partner and create the Georgia Grasslands Initiative (GGI) project in iNaturalist.

During this webinar, Mr. Rogers will describe this ongoing initiative and how you can get involved with the project to document remnant roadside grassland habitats.

Mr. Will Rogers is a Conservation Research Professional at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia with a focus on imperiled plant species.
