Georgia’s grasslands need our attention. Our National Forest roadsides hold relicts of lost grassland and woodland habitats that have been declining since European settlement. Shockingly, Southeastern grasslands have declined to about 1% of what they used to be. Nearly a third of all animals in the Southeast U.S. require grassland habitat for survival. These startling numbers led the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia and the U.S. Forest Service to partner and create the Georgia Grasslands Initiative (GGI) project in iNaturalist.

During this webinar, Mr. Rogers will describe this ongoing initiative and how you can get involved with the project to document remnant roadside grassland habitats.

Mr. Will Rogers is a Conservation Research Professional at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia with a focus on imperiled plant species.
