On February 7th, 2015, several dozen GNPS members gathered at Big Trees Forest Preserve in Sandy Springs for a “winter woody walk.” The purpose of the walk was to learn about identifying plants, particularly woody plants, using their winter characteristics. These characteristics include leftover leaves on the plant and on the ground as well as the bark and twigs of the plants.

We hope to repeat this trip during winter each year in order to learn more and practice our skills.
