Marti Breen and Cal Crutchfield have been adding native plants to their urban lot in Atlanta for years. Among the paths and benches they have planted tall garden phlox (Phlox paniculata), cutleaf coneflower (Rudbeckia laciniata), downy skullcap (Scutellaria incana) and many more perennials. Various ferns, Southern maidenhair (Adiantum capillus-veneris), ebony spleenwort (Asplenium platyneuron), and sensitive fern (Onoclea sensibilis) fill in the landscape. The shrubs of Piedmont azalea (Rhododendron canescens), beautyberry (Callicarpa americana), and spicebush (Lindera benzoin) provide seasonal displays of flowers, berries and fall color. Congratulations to Marti and Cal for receiving a silver level award for their native plant habitat.
