Native plants cover the 1/3 acre lot at the home of Virginia DuPre, where she has worked many years planting woodland wildflowers. There are numerous healthy patches of bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis), mayapples (Podophyllum peltatum), yellow trout lily (Erythronium americanum), and foam flower (Tiarella cordifolia). Virginia has also added Piedmont azaleas (Rhododendron canescens), flame azaleas (Rhododendron calendulaceum), sweetshrub (Calycanthus floridus), and other shrubs throughout the shaded property. A gold certification was awarded for eliminating lawn, saving the large oaks (Quercus) and hickory (Carya) and for recreating the natural habitat.
