Sally and Bob Hilton take on the responsibility of being stewards of the natural community. Their native plant habitat hosts many insects, birds, reptiles and mammals. There is always something in flower throughout the growing season in the Hiltons’ yard. A few of the many plants that fill the front meadow are butterfly weed (Asclepias tuberosa), fire pink (Silene virginica), rattlesnake master (Eryngium yuccifolium), and Pennsylvania sedge (Carex pensylvanica) all encircling a monarch butterfly sculpture. The shade garden in the back yard is planted with native azaleas (Rhododendron sp.), a collection of trilliums (Trillium sp.), black cohosh (Actaea racemosa), Indian pink (Spigelia marilandica), foamflower (Tiarella cordifolia), and so many more. Sally and Bob were awarded the gold level for creating a native plant habitat filled with plants in every category!
