In Edgewood, Rachel Maher and Chris Whyte designed a whimsical yard with garden rooms incorporating native plants. They removed an unproductive lawn and replaced it with native plants inspired to make the space more welcoming to wildlife. The front yard displays hanging windows among the oak leaf hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia), beautyberry (Callicarpa americana), and shrubby St. John’s wort (Hypericum prolificum). Butterflies, bees and wasps are drawn to the mountain mint (Pycnanthemum muticum), bee balm (Monarda fistulosa), blazing star (Liatris spicata), and goldenrod (Solidago sp). A woodland walk around the house has pawpaws (Asimina triloba), redbuds (Cercis canadensis), and strawberry bush (Euonymus americanus).

Rachel and Chris were awarded the GNPS Silver Certification!
