NOTE: The workday scheduled for 11/9/18 has been cancelled.

Nine volunteers worked to remove nonnative plants and to prepare the park for the November 9 workday. Two scouts earned service hours while learning to identify some of the nonnative plants that were targeted on this workday. The large privets and some bamboo were removed from the east park boundary near Briarcliff Road. Pink tags remaining on treated nonnative material were removed and placed in the garbage. Chaff flower plants that were marked with pink flags were dug and placed in yard waste bags. The pink flags will be reused to mark additional chaff flower plants to be dug on Friday. The volunteers removed concealing ivy and other vines from the glass and plastic garbage dump in the central ravine to facilitate removal of the garbage on the workday Friday.

A hawk was spotted in a tree and later heard screaming while we worked.

Blue mistflower, Georgia aster, and Georgia basil were blooming in the parking area bed. The magenta berries of beautyberry remain.

The next scheduled workday will be Saturday, December 1, 2018, 2-4 pm when we plan to continue removing nonnative plants. Please bring your gardening gloves, soil knife/trowel, and kneeler to help.
