The West Georgia Chapter of the Georgia Native Plant Society
About Our Chapter
The West Georgia Chapter of GNPS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the stewardship and conservation of Georgia’s native plants and their habitats. The chapter was founded in 2008 to serve people in the western counties of the North Georgia Piedmont.
Chapter meetings, which are open to the public, are held at the Carroll County Agricultural Education Center in Carrollton six times a year. Most meetings include an educational program as well as time for socializing.Chapter Newsletter Archive
The Buffalo Creek Trail, a 40-acre tract of woods and meadows, is the West Georgia Chapter’s ongoing habitat restoration project. Chapter volunteers meet weekly to remove invasives, install native plants, and improve the trail’s walking paths and facilities. The trail can be accessed from a trailhead behind the Ag Center or from the GreenBelt trailhead on Old Newnan Rd.
The chapter holds native plant sales every year in April and September. These are major events at which the chapter is joined by a number of local nurseries and growers offering their own native plants for sale.
The chapter also
- sponsors GNPS plant rescues,
- evaluates gardens for GNPS native habitat certification,
- maintains a native plant garden at the Neva Lomason Library in Carrollton, and
- works with community groups to educate adults and children about the importance of native plants.
