We were a busy crew today. Despite the cold weather we had a turnout of ten, including two new volunteers. Five orange bags of trash were filled and left for Cobb DOT to pick up. Thanks much, Patty! We removed English ivy (Hedera helix) from the woods above the upper section of trail and filled two lawn-&-leaf bags with it — thanks to Cynthia and Cathy. In the lower area down by the creek, we pulled small privet (Ligustrum sinense) shrubs and cut down large privet “trees”. Trimmings from these were piled into a new brush pile — thanks Dave C., Jackie, Dave McD, Aaron, Cathy, and others. We cleared fallen River Birch (Betula nigra) twigs and branches from the Pavilion Garden (thanks, Connie).  Plants are in their winter dormancy; the  usually evergreen privet seems to have fewer leaves on it than usual. More than a dozen bird species were seen and/or heard by the birders among us, including bluebirds, hawks, woodpeckers, and more. We have to report that at present the trail surface is very slick and difficult to walk on, so please be aware of that if you plan to visit the park.
