Work report courtesy of Connie Ghosh.

Saturday’s weather was cool with partial overcast — good weather for outdoor work. We worked on the Pavilion Garden and small triangular area next to it; kept on with pulling and removing privet from about 400 sq. ft. down by the creek —the piles are getting really large!; and picked up enough trash around the pavilion, along road, and down by the creek to fill 5 bags. We saw and heard plenty of birds, and insects (including boxelder bugs and ants) and spiders could be spotted moving around. We also saw chipmunks, and a rabbit ran across the trail in front of a man & his young son who were using it. We saw that a large tulip poplar had toppled over across the small borrow pond at the bottom of the hill. Down along the creek we discovered a small cane brake (colony of native river cane) — but also invasive autumn fern. We’ll have to turn our attention to it sometime in the future. An enjoyable and productive workday!
Our next work day is Saturday March 9. Please contact Connie (connieg6474@gmail.com) if you’re interested in joining the volunteer group.
